Juvenile Crimes

The Law Offices of David Golden, P.A. is a Treasure Coast Juvenile Criminal Defense Firm.  We know, first hand, that it seems far more difficult today than ever before to be a juvenile and avoid the criminal court system.  There are many social reasons for this (such as divorce, or the widespread availability of drugs), but also because of policies in the school systems like "zero tolerance," or, having law enforcement officers (labeled "school resource officers" to sound better) on our campuses, full time.  A simple fight in the hallway or cafeteria which would have resulted in in-school sanctions and possible suspensions in days gone by, now results in a full blown criminal prosecution and, most likely, expulsion.  Contacting the Law Offices of David Golden, P.A., immediately can best ensure your child or family member is protected within the Juvenile Justice System.

In Florida, crimes committed by "minors", young persons under the age of eighteen, will most often be handled in the Juvenile Court System.  There are, however, certain limited instances where someone under the age of eighteen may be treated and charged as an adult.  There are many differences between the criminal adult system and the juvenile system.  Adults are afforded the opportunity to have their case decided by a jury, for example, while a juvenile's case is only decided by a judge.  Keeping a juvenile in custody is different too.  Pending the resolution of the case, juveniles are detained in either a "secured" detention, or a "non-secured" detention.  A "secured detention" means housing the juvenile in a juvenile detention facility, whereas "non-secured" normally means a family residence, depending on what supervision is available.  A minor can only be held in the county jail under limited circumstances, and then, is segregated from the general population.  A minor facing juvenile charges on the Treasure Coast should be represented by an attorney with a proven track record in juvenile law in Martin County, St. Lucie County, and Indian River County, Florida.

The Law Offices of David Golden, P.A. has years of experience specifically handling all types of Juvenile charges in Stuart, Port St. Lucie, Palm City, Sewall's Point, Hobe Sound, St. Lucie West, Jensen Beach, Jupiter, Fort Pierce, and Vero Beach, Florida.  Attorney David Golden first began practicing law in 1986, as an Assistant Public Defender in St. Lucie County, Florida, and quickly became the head of the St. Lucie County Juvenile Division.  Now, celebrating over 20 years of service on Florida's Treasure Coast, Attorney David Golden continues his success in defending all juvenile charges including:

  • Shoplifting and Petite Theft
  • Underage Drinking
  • Criminal Mischief and Vandalism
  • Assault, Battery, and Aggravated Battery
  • Possession of Drugs, and Sale of Drugs
  • Hate Crimes
  • Sex Crimes, and Statutory Rape (Sexual Battery)
In cases involving juvenile charges there are many options, depending on the charge and, whether, or not, the juvenile has a criminal history.  Though the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and the Juvenile Court System have rehabilitation as a primary goal rather than purely punishment, as in the adult system, it could be potentially devastating to take juvenile charges lightly.  Being declared a "delinquent," or being "committed" to a program could be permanently damaging.  The Law Offices of David Golden, P.A., is dedicated to zealously representing our juvenile clients, and always looks for creative ways to explore possible diversionary programs (such as drug court) when they are available.  Count on us to fight for your child, whether it means minimizing their potential exposure, or, seeing the case through a full trial, if needed.
